From October 1, 2018 to March 15, 2019, the external trade value exceeded 15.505 billion US dollars, up 185.906 million USD compared with the same period last year, according to the figures of the Ministry of Commerce.
During over four months of this fiscal year, the exports hit over 7.372 billion USD and the imports, over 8.143 billion USD. There is a trade deficit of 771.003 million USD.
The exports increased by over 690 million USD and the imports declined by over 510 million USD.
At the 9th regular session of second Union Parliament, Union Minister for Planning and Finance Soe Win said the total trade value was expected to hit over 31 billion USD – exports of 15.4 billion USD and imports of 15.8 billion USD— during this fiscal year. The ministry also planned to reduce the trade deficit to around 500 million USD.
