Sagaing Region considers bamboo plantation requests from local businesses

Forty-two entrepreneurs have petitioned to use 2,400 acres of forest area in Sagaing Region to cultivate bamboo for raw materials for private industries, said U Thein Sein, head of the regional forestry department.

Authorities approve of bamboo plantations in forests that are damaged or have low number of trees in order to generate additional income for the nation, make the environment greener, and moderate watersheds.

Similar petitions include one for 1,000 acres in Kanni Township by 20 farmers, one for 700 acres in Kawlin Township by 14 farmers, and one for 600 acres by 6 farmers, and two for 50 acres by a farmer each in Indaw Township
