Three Government Technology Institutes (AGTIs) will be launched in the current academic year, according to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Department, Ministry of Education. Courses on automobile engineering and agricultural farm machinery engineering will also be added in the 2019-2020AY.

“Currently, there are 25 AGTIs across the country. Three new AGTIs will be opened in December this year. This academic year will see a total of 28 AGTIs. We are planning to open new AGTIs across the country and add new engineering courses, in accordance with the new system. We are aiming at the emergence of new qualified youths from these institutes. We need more cooperation from the related ministries and government organizations,” said Dr Nay Myo Tun, deputy director-general of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Department.

AGTI (Nay Pyi Taw), AGTI (Loikaw), and AGTI (Aung San) will be opened in the 2019-2020AY. The AGTIs offer three-year courses, and the modules will include theory and practical studies. The courses include civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, information technology engineering, and industrial engineering.

Beginning this December, automobile engineering and agriculture farm machinery engineering courses will be opened at Kyaiklat and Wakema in Ayeyawady Region and in Shwebo of Sagaing Region, according to the TVET Department.
Those who would like to attend the AGTIs need to pass the matriculation exam. Admission to the schools will be based on English and Mathematics scores.
